Marionette

lyrics

I guess I'm wrong, again,
About the ins and outs and details of the fall of men,
I thought we'd learnt our lesson long ago;

I guess I'm torn, again,
Between the wrongs and rights and lefts,
Just like the sword and the pen,
Neither's as mighty or as sharp as any tongue.

Let it be known that I'm not gonna roll over
Or be subject to the whims of a puppeteer;
Let it be clear that I'm not gonna trip and fall
Or be strung up on your wall just like a marionette.

I guess I tried too hard
To fight the ifs and buts to find what lay beneath the facade,
I thought I'd learnt my lesson long ago.

Now I guess I'm tired of this tale,
Of all the twists and turns, false glory in the search for the Grail,
It's not as mighty or as prized as many think.

But let it be known that I'm not gonna roll over
Or be subject to the whims of a puppeteer;
Let it be clear that I'm not gonna trip and fall
Or be strung up on your wall just like a marionette.
